Exploring the Great Outdoors: New Hampshire's Best Family-Friendly Trails
As a New Hampshire family photographer specializing in lifestyle family portraits, I'm always looking for New Hampshire’s Best Family-Friendly Trails. My clients are very active and always trying new spots!
In today’s digital world, it can be hard to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and explore the great outdoors. But, New Hampshire is the perfect place to break free from the daily grind and get back to nature. With its lush forests and majestic mountains, New Hampshire offers some of the most beautiful and family-friendly trails in the country. Whether you’re a novice hiker or a seasoned pro, there is something for everyone in the Granite State. Here are some of the best family-friendly trails New Hampshire has to offer.
Franconia Ridge Loop Trail
One of the most popular trails for advanced hikers is the Franconia Ridge Loop Trail in the White Mountains. This 6.9-mile loop is an advanced hike with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Along the way, you’ll see plenty of wildlife, including moose, bear, and other animals. The trail is also full of wildflowers, so be sure to bring your camera!
Mt. Washington
If you’re looking for an even more challenging trail, Mt. Washington may be the perfect choice. This 6.2-mile out-and-back trail is considered strenuous due to its steep climbs and rocky terrain, but I’ve heard the reward at the summit is well worth the effort! On a clear day, hikers can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and forests. Can’t wait to do this one with my hubby!
Wapack Trail
If you’re looking for something a bit more slow and steady, the Wapack Trail is a great choice. This 21-mile out-and-back trail is perfect for families with with moderate hiking experience. The trail runs through the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway and offers plenty of stunning views along the way. Along the way, you’ll see plenty of wildlife, including deer, bears, turkeys, and more.
Horse Hill Nature Preserve
One trail that I loved when my children were 3-8 years old was Horse Hill Nature Preserve. About 1/4 mile in there is a nice little pond with beaver houses (in use) and benches to sit on. We would usually bring a picnic then continue exploring. Herons frequent the pond as well. Bring you binoculars for a fun but leisurely time! The entire trail is almost 3 miles if you choose hike the whole thing.
Manchester Rail Trail
For those who want to explore the great outdoors without leaving the city, the Manchester Rail Trail is the perfect choice. This 4-mile out-and-back trail runs through the heart of Manchester and is perfect for leisurely strolls or bike rides. The trail is mostly paved but also includes sections of gravel and dirt, making it ideal for family outings.
No matter your age or ability level, New Hampshire’s great outdoors offers something for everyone. From peaceful strolls to challenging hikes, these family-friendly trails are sure to provide an unforgettable experience. Whether you’re looking for a quick escape from the city or an adventure-filled weekend in the mountains, New Hampshire’s trails have something for everyone! So, come explore the great outdoors and create memories that will last a lifetime.
